  • Lesson Calendar
We follow the lesson calendar of most schools where the school year is divided into three terms as follows: Fall Semester, mid-August to December Spring Semester, January - May Summer Sessions, June - mid-August Setting up the lesson calendar this way allows our lesson schedule to align with school breaks and holidays.
  • Lesson Count
The number of total sessions for each terms are as follows: Fall Semester 16 regular lessons, 1 recital, 1 workshop / masterclass Spring Semester 18 regular lessons, 1 recital, 1 workshop / masterclass Summer Sessions 8 lessons Please see our Lesson Calendar for the distribution of lessons for each semester.
  • Lesson Schedule
All our lessons recur weekly. During Fall and Spring, students will attend lessons each week on the same day and at the same time and work with the same instructor. Summer schedules are more flexible to accommodate summer travels and activities. See ‘Summer Lesson Package’ for summer lessons.
  • Lesson Durations and Delivery
We offer 30-, 45-, and 60-minute lessons. Lessons are given in a private, one-on-one setting. Our default lesson delivery method is in-person at our studio. Virtual lessons are available upon request.
  • Enrollment
All students taking weekly lessons must be enrolled and pay a yearly registration fee. Registration fees are charged at the beginning of the school year in August and it is not refundable nor transferrable. Enrollment is continuous unless a withdrawal notice is given. We open year-round and welcome students at any time. Tuition and a New Student registration fee is due at the time of enrollment. Tuition will be prorated according to the lesson weeks remaining in the month of enrollment. Students enrolling in the middle of the school year, i.e. the Spring Semester in January - May, will be charged a reduced registration fee at the time of enrollment and the full amount in August for the next school year. Enrollment discounts do not apply when registration fee is reduced. Returning students will be charged a New Student registration fee at the time of re-enrollment.
  • Attendance
Students enrolling in weekly lessons should attend lessons at the appointed time each week and provide notice if a lesson will be missed. If a student misses two lessons without notice, we will make an attempt to contact and assist. After three no-shows, we will remove the student from the schedule, roster, and billing. There will be no refund for missed lessons without communication.
  • Drop Off and Pick Up
Children under 12 must not be left at the school or leave the school unaccompanied. Parents or guardians are responsible for picking up their children on time. We have designated waiting areas around the school for adults to wait while the children are in lessons. Preston Harmony School of Music and the instructors are not responsible for any students outside of their lesson time.
  • Late Arrivals
In the event that a student is not at the school at the scheduled lesson time, the teacher will wait for up to 15 minutes. If no contact is made, then the teacher may leave and the session is marked a no-show. If a student is late to a lesson, the teacher is only required to conduct lessons for the time remaining in the appointment. No refund or make-up will be given for missed hours due to late arrivals.
  • Make-Up Lessons / Rescheduling
Each student may schedule one make-up lesson per semester. There is one week at the end of each semester designated for make-up lessons. To qualify for make-up, a cancellation notice must be received at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations within 24 hours and lessons that are missed without notice (i.e. no-show) will not be made up or rescheduled. Make-up lessons must be completed in the same semester and not carried over to the next one. A missed make-up lesson will not be rescheduled. A lesson that is canceled by the instructor will be made up and does not count toward the one make-up lesson allowance for the semester. We reserve the right to use a substitute teacher to retain the continuity of the lesson schedule.
  • Termination of Lessons / Withdrawal
Students are not obligated by a contract. However, a 30-day notice is required for discontinuation of lessons. A signed withdrawal notice must be received by admin to be official. Verbal, email or text messages are not sufficient for the withdrawal process. Students are responsible for the next four lessons from the date the signed withdrawal notice is received. During this period, the lesson schedule is still reserved for the student and they may continue to attend the remaining lessons they have paid but if they choose not to, no refunds will be given. Students who pay tuition in full for the semester will receive a refund for the unused portion of the tuition minus 10%. We reserve the right to terminate lessons due to non-attendance and late payments. Withdrawing, even temporarily for the summer, forfeits the current lesson schedule, enrollment status, and potentially the instructor. When returning to lessons, students must re-enroll. Lesson schedule and teacher assignment will be subject to availability.
  • Schedule Change Request
Our instructors handle their weekly teaching schedules. If a student needs to request a change of schedule, their instructor will be able to help. If the instructor is not available at the preferred schedule, Preston Harmony admin will be able to assist by transferring the student to another instructor.
  • Instructor Assignments
We assign instructors based on a prospective student’s age, schedule, and learning preferences expressed during consultation. Questions, learning goals, and any specific accommodation can be communicated to the instructor during the trial lesson. Our instructors are highly trained professionals who excel at what they do. If a student finds that the assigned teaching approach is not suitable for their learning style, we recommend that further communication first be established with the instructor. If a student still prefers to try another method, they may request a change of instructor and Preston Harmony admin can assist with a transfer.
  • Tuition Rates and Billing Schedule
Monthly rates vary according to the lesson duration (i.e. 30, 45, or 60 minutes). Tuition rates are calculated according to the total number of sessions and divided evenly into a flat rate to be charged monthly as installments. This means the number of sessions per month could vary yet the rate will remain the same. Though most months will consist of four lesson weeks, there could be up to five sessions in some months and only three in other months. The billed rate will be the same in these months with an uneven number of lessons, since the amount reflects the installment and not the exact number of lessons in that month. Tuition rate includes recitals and workshops / masterclasses; there are no extra charges for these events. Fees do apply for festivals where participation is optional. Billing schedule for the school year is as follows: August - half month tuition plus registration fee for the upcoming school year September - May: regular monthly tuition June - Summer Lesson Package installment 1 July - Summer Lesson Package installment 2 Installment schedule for the school year is as follows: Fall semester - 4.5 installments Spring semester - 5 installments Summer session - 2 installments Students have the option to pay in full for each semester.
  • Billing and Payment Methods
Monthly tuition is automatically processed on the 1st using the debit / credit card placed on file. Auto-payment customers may request for a monthly invoice if needed. In the event that the card is declined, a $15 declined transaction fee applies. There will be a grace period of 10 days for customers to update their payment method. If the account is not settled by the 10th, a late fee of $30 applies. We also accept checks and Zelle payments. An invoice will be sent via email on the 25th for the upcoming month. Payments are due on the 1st of the month and are late after the 10th. A late fee of $30 will be assessed for late payments. All tuition and fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If no payment is made after the 15th, no further lessons will be scheduled. We reserve the right to terminate lessons for constant late tuition payments.
  • Summer Billing
There are a total of 11 lesson weeks in the summer and each student has an allowance of 8 lessons. This means a student and their teacher could skip up to 3 weeks and still have enough lessons for which they are billed. The 8 summer lessons will be charged in two installments on June 1st and July 1st. Since summer lessons can be scheduled with flexibility, the actual number of lessons a student takes in each month may vary. The June charge is for lessons 1-4, not for the month of June. The July charge is for lessons 5-8, not for the month of July. Additional summer lessons are welcome and will be offered with a 5% discount. These additional lessons will be charged in August.
  • Scheduled Breaks
Scheduled breaks such as Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, Spring break, and semester breaks are factored into the lesson calendar. These weeks do not count and they do not reduce the number of lessons. Therefore, these off weeks do not need to be made up or refunded. Please see the Lesson Calendar for lesson count.
  • Inclement Weather Closures
In the event of impending inclement weather, we will follow the closure decisions of the schools in the surrounding area, such as St. Mark’s, Hockaday, Alcuin, Parish, Dallas International School, Lamplighter, DISD, etc. Our instructors will provide virtual lessons via Zoom or FaceTime as an alternative to in-person lessons during weather-related closures.
  • Temporary Lesson Pause Due to Injury
We could provide a courtesy billing hold for up to 8 weeks if a student has to pause lessons due to injury. This allows the student to retain their enrollment status and does not need to re-enroll to resume lessons. Regular billing will resume at the end of the pause unless we receive further notice. If lessons are not resumed at the end of the pause, the student will automatically be withdrawn and need to re-enroll when returning to lessons. During the pause, tuition will not be charged but the current lesson schedule is forfeited. Upon resuming lessons, lesson schedules will be subject to availability. Students have the option to pay a minimum fee of $50 per month to reserve the lesson schedule until their return.
  • Photo / Video Release
Photos and videos of students and families may be featured on our website, social media, and marketing materials. There is no compensation for publication of these media. By enrolling for lessons, students give release to the use of photos and /or videos. Students have the option to opt out of photo and video publication if desired by contacting admin@prestonharmonymusic.com.
  • Summer Lesson Package
During the summer, each student has a package of 8 lessons to use throughout the summer term. Lessons can be scheduled with flexibility to accommodate summer travels and activities. The type of lesson package a student has follows their regular lesson duration. For example, if regular lessons are 30 minutes, then the summer lesson package will be 8 X 30 minutes, or the equivalent of 4 lesson hours. Students may schedule 8 lessons, attend lessons twice a week, or extend some lessons to reach the 4 hours allowance. Students may purchase additional lessons beyond the 8 lessons in the summer package at a reduced rate.
  • Free Trial Lesson
Only students new to Preston Harmony School of Music qualify for free trial lessons. Trial lessons are 30 minutes regardless of the desired lesson duration after enrollment. Each new student is allowed one free trial lesson. Students may schedule additional 30-minute trial lessons at a reduced rate of $35 per session. Each student may schedule up to 3 trial sessions (1 free and 2 paid) per instrument. The trial lesson day/time will typically be the ongoing weekly schedule. Following the trial lesson, we will provide a courtesy hold of the lesson schedule for 3 days. If no enrollment is confirmed at the end of the hold, the schedule will be released to other prospective students
